Mary Miller Arnold is serving as Chair of the Save Historic Muny District created by the Texas Legislature in 2019. She is also a member of the board of the West Austin Neighborhood Association (WANG). She has been a supporter of Lions Municipal Golf Course since 1972.
Originally from Dallas, she attended The University of Texas earning a BA in Plan II, and MA in Government. After several years in Houston for her husband’s work, they returned to Austin in 1965. She served on the Board for the University YWCA, joined the League of Women Voters, and was as an Art Docent at the UT Art Museums in the 1970’s. Following came service on the Parks Board, Planning Commission and several other city advisory groups — including the Golf Advisory Board. She became a member of the West Austin Neighborhood Group board in 2006, at a time when the UT Board of Regents were beginning to discuss ways to increase income to UT by cancelling the city’s lease on the golf course, and considering money making non-university purpose uses for all the remaining acreage of the Brackenridge Tract.
Mary is married to William D. Arnold and they have two children and four grandchildren.
